AUDIO PREVIEW
The following brief clips are not recordings of the performing ensemble. These are excerpts of rough demo recordings and MIDI realizations. |
Composer, performer, educator MARK LACKEY works in a range of genres to reach listeners who might not otherwise encounter newly-composed art music.
His 2018 solo album Fairy Tale explores acoustic chamber music, together with electronic remixes of that music. More recently his orchestra work Reef, which received its world premiere by the National Theatre Orchestra of Brazil under maestro Claudio Cohen and has since been performed twice in the United States, brings together impressionistic and romantic gestures with the driving rhythms of rock.
Now, in an effort to reach out to a still wider audience, Mark Lackey is working together with a dozen other artists and with local cultural organizations as he composes an hour-long original work with a message of renewal and hope. Bringing together the worlds of classical acoustic instruments, electric guitars and drums, electronic beats, and vocals – and incorporating amplification, sets, lighting, and projections – this new work – entitled TOGETHER – is planned for performance both in a formal recital hall and for students of Scrollworks community music school at Birmingham, Alabama’s historic St. Paul United Methodist Church, the heart of the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham.
Please join with Mark Lackey and colleagues – and Scrollworks – in making this exciting project happen – TOGETHER.
